Making the Front Cover

These are the stages I took to piece my magazine front cover together:

I used the magnetic lasso tool to cut my model out and the filled the background in so it was grey. I thought this was a good background colour as it is neutral and allows the images and text to stand out in front of it.

I inserted a red banner behind my models head to ensure that the title would stand out. I chose the colour red as i think it is a striking, bold and eye-catching colour and contrasts well between the grey background and the black dress my model is wearing.

I placed the heading 'SOUND' on the left hand side as it is what the reader would see first. Also Sarah's head would block the middle part of the heading so the reader may not be able to read the name of the magazine. I put the font in capital letters to make it stand out more and make it look more powerful. I decided on having a white heading as it stands out well against the red background and looks a bit softer than black.

I kept my model's name as Sarah and made it red and in a large font to grab the reader's attention and make it clear that she is the magazine's main feature. I made the supporting text for it in a white font as this is still a bold colour and I wanted to keep the same colour fonts all the way through my front cover. E.g. Red, white and black. I have inserted this across my model's body to make it clear to the reader that the text is about her.

I have made the text telling the reader what is featured in the magazine black as it matches the dress Sarah is wearing and stands out clearly on the grey background. Where I have wanted it to stand out and separate from the rest, I have made it white.

Using the magnetic lasso tool, I have cut Dappy from N-Dubz out of a photo I took at a concert I attended and have placed him into the corner of my magazine.

I added some supporting text to my picture of Dappy, making the most important part red to draw attention to it.

This is what my final front cover looks like. To finish it off, I inserted a barcode, price and date to make it look like a professional magazine.
